Violin masterclasses

Continuing in our tradition of elevating music education standards, the IMA is planning future opportunities for string students such as a Technique Olympics Competition, a Bach Competition, as well as various String MasterClasses.

During MasterClasses, students will receive expert feedback from reknown teachers and pedagogues. Those interested in the MasterClasses may sign up online, either as participants or as observants. There is a limited number of participants allowed so sign up early!  Student members may observe MasterClasses at no charge!

Emilia Blaszak-Freymiller

Emilia Blaszak-Freymiller is the teaching artist at the Polish-American Conservatory of Music and Arts and South Loop Strings. She is on the board of the directors and committee chair of strings at the Illinois Music Association. Her students are members of many orchestras in the Chicago area. Many of Ms. Blaszak-Freymiller’s students regularly participate in and are awarded at violin festivals and competitions, including the IMA Annual Competition, DePaul Concerto Festival for Young Performers, Sejong Music Competition and more.

AYAKO KIKUCHI​

Ayako Kikuchi is a devoted educator, who has been teaching the violin, and viola, privately, for almost twenty years.
Ms. Kikuchi holds Bachelors, and Masters, degrees in Music from the Chicago College of Performing Arts, at Roosevelt University, where she studied Violin Performance. Following her graduation, she received pedagogical training from Nancy Jackson and Thomas Wermuth. Ms. Kikuchi was the string adjudicator at the ILMEA All-State Senior Orchestra Auditions, and the IHSA Solo and Ensemble contest, for over ten years. Currently, she resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

If you wish to get an expert’s opinion to help polish your piece and perfect all details and nuances, please sign up on the form below. Four participants will be together in a 75 minute session. This masterclass focuses on the required lists of the Annual IMA competition.

Students will prepare a Bach piece to be critiqued by judges.
