The Illinois Music Association is thrilled to announce the launch of our first-ever Sonata/Sonatina Solo Competition, a virtual event open to piano and string performers. This competition is designed to promote excellence in performance, encourage artistic growth, and foster a deeper understanding of the sonata and sonatina repertoire.

Each entrant is invited to submit one movement from a sonata or sonatina. Submissions of multiple movements will be considered as separate entries. All performances will be evaluated by one  of our qualified judges, and participants will be eligible to receive a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participation Award based on the artistic and technical merit of their performance. Every participant will also receive a certificate of recognition from the IMA.

Registration/ Video submission period: October 13 – December 1

Deadline: December 1

Results will be given to your instructors by January 15.

The fee for each entry is $35.
