3rd IMA Annual bach violin video competition

“Calling all violin virtuosos! Unleash your inner Bach with our Johann Sebastian Bach Violin Video Competition and showcase your exceptional talent and interpretation of Bach’s timeless compositions. Compete for the chance to win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place engraved medallion. Join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach through the power of your violin performance.
Students will prepare a Bach piece to be critiqued by judges.
Competition will take place online, in the fall, during December

The Bach competition is for violinists ages 5 – 18

  1. Beginning
  2. Intermediate A
  3. Intermediate B
  4. Advanced
  1. $35 – Soloists
  2. $40 – Duets/ Bach Double Concerto

  1. Piano accompaniment is not mandatory but recommended. If you need a referral for a pianist, please let us know.

  2. All solo pieces in each category must be performed by memory with all repeats. Duets and the Bach Double Concerto do not need to be memorized.

  3. Any publisher for advanced level music is allowed. Remember to send a .pdf (jpegs are not allowed) copy of your music in the attachment (this is for advanced level students only).

  4. Beginning and intermediate level students do not need to submit their selections if using the revised Suzuki books. If you are not using the revised Suzuki books, then please scan music with bowings and repeats that the student will use. When submitting video link please announce the name of the participant(s) on the video.

  1. Every participant will receive a participation certificate
  2. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will also receive engraved medals
  3. The names of the competition winners and their teachers will be announced on our IMA website.
  4. Letters of congratulations will be sent to the winners and their teachers.
  5. The decisions by the judges are final.
  6. Ties among contestants are allowed.
  7. Contestants, parents, and teachers are prohibited from personal contact with the judges at any time. The judges’ names will be announced one month prior to the competition.
  1. Make sure your video is shot in a horizontal/landscape position (holding your phone sideways). Entire body should be in the picture.
  2. Your video must be uploaded to YouTube. Do not publish as a private video. You can publish as “unlisted” or “public”.
  3. Please copy your YouTube channel link in the registration form (there is a placement for this on the form).
